The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on April 28, 2026, issued a notification on Permission to take or cause or permit to be taken photography at aerodrome under rule 13 of the Aircraft Rules, 1937.
The aerodrome operator is permitted to allow photography in the security hold area and/or tarmac under Rule 13 of the Aircraft Rules, 1937, subject to strict safety and security conditions. Photography must not compromise aircraft safety, disrupt airport operations, interfere with facilities, distract personnel, cause overcrowding, or involve construction of any structure within aerodrome premises.
Individuals undertaking photography must carry valid identification and required entry permits as per Bureau of Civil Aviation Security guidelines, and must undergo standard security checks applicable to passengers before accessing restricted areas. Foreign crew are generally not allowed; however, foreign nationals may be permitted only after obtaining necessary security clearances from competent authorities.
The aerodrome operator is also required to maintain records of all photography activities for a period of three years and produce them for inspection by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation when required.
